For founders building in physical industry

4IR Ventures

The capital you need to scale — raised through a vehicle built for your round, not squeezed into someone else's fund cycle.

How it works

An SPV for your round, funded by our investors.

We do not make you wait for a fund to close. When we back a company, we form a vehicle for it and bring our investors to that specific opportunity.

  1. 01

    We have conviction

Real meetings, not a data room crawl. When we have conviction, you make a formal application to 4IR Ventures and we decide against the criteria below — and we tell you either way rather than going quiet.

  2. 02

    We form the SPV

A special purpose vehicle for your company and your round. One line on your cap table, with many of our investors sitting behind it.

  3. 03

    Our investors allocate

We match the opportunity to the investors whose thesis it actually fits, and they allocate through the platform. You raise; we handle the mechanics.

Lunar mission imagery — the NASA and DARPA research Seco Bio came out of

Protecting what matters.

Probiotics die before they arrive. Seco Bio’s proprietary formulation keeps them alive from the factory to the moment they are used — so what is on the label is what is inside.

Out of NASA- and DARPA-funded research at MIT into keeping bacteria alive for soldiers in the field and astronauts on long missions. Published in Nature Materials, 2024.

The right antibiotic for sepsis, in hours.

When sepsis sets in, doctors guess at antibiotics for days while the lab catches up. PhAST names the one that works in hours.

Computer vision that resolves individual bacteria with no isolation and no staining, read across thousands of cells and converted to a categorical result by a locked machine-learning pipeline.

Syntis Bio — in the lab

Unlocking the small intestine.

The drugs that work for obesity are injections. Syntis Bio is building oral therapies that act through the small intestine’s own biology instead — a pill where a needle used to be.

A pipeline across multiple therapeutic areas, starting with obesity and extending to rare genetic disorders.

What we have learned

Software maths does not survive contact with a factory floor.

Physical things take longer and cost more. We price that in rather than discovering it at the second raise.

What we look for

Who gets in.

We pass on most of what we see. The bar is here so you can judge the fit before you build a deck for us.

  • Conviction, not traction

We underwrite pre-revenue. What we are buying is the thesis, the technology and the team — not a revenue line that arrives too early to mean anything.

  • A defensible position

Proprietary technology, protected IP, or a structural advantage that does not evaporate the moment a larger balance sheet notices you.

  • A credible path to liquidity

Clarity on how this ends — strategic acquisition, IPO or secondary — and a view on who the eventual buyers are. We underwrite the exit, not only the entry.

  • A round we can fill

A defined raise on clean terms, with room for one line on the cap table. We form an SPV per company, per round, and bring our investors to that vehicle.
